Our Center is Now Offering New and Advance Treatment for Depression!
(At our Prince Frederick Location, Calvert County and at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington DC)

NeuroStar TMS Therapy® is a new treatment cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for patients suffering from depression* who have not achieved satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant treatment.

In October 2008, the US Food and Drug Administration approved TMS therapy as a treatment for Major Depression.

NeuroStar delivers TMS Therapy as an outpatient procedure, while patients remain awake and alert throughout treatment.

This treatment is non-invasive and non-sedating. No side effects such as weight gain, seizures,  sexual problems, drug-device interaction, cognitive impairment or negative effects on memory were reported.

The main side effects are limited to discomfort or pain in the scalp or skin under the treatment coil and tension-type headache.

The typical initial treatment course consists of 5 treatments per week over a 4-6 week period. Each treatment session lasts approximately 37 minutes.

TMS uses very short pulsed magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. An electro-magnetic coil is placed againts the scalp over the left  dorsolateral prefrontal cortex  and magnetic field passes undiminished into the underlying cortex to stimulate neurons.  This part of the brain is involved with mood regulation.
